Update October 13th:
I've had several meetings since taking up this campaign and it is good to hear that there is a potential solution to the campaign to provide a car share scheme for Filey. The campaign started when the service ended following Colin’s retirement. As such, I think it is very reasonable that the town pursues the only firm offer on the table to replace it. Without the fantastic work of Sue Cowan and her supporters and the support of Cllr Jacquie Houlden-Banks I believe this service would have been lost forever. I would be very happy to continue to work with Councillor Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff and Councillor Dorothy Wilkins to see what we can do for Hunmanby, Muston and other villages, whilst noting their clear requirement not to undermine the No.12 bus service. More updates to follow as matters progress.
Update October 6th:
Filey and Hunmanby Local Transport Update: constructive meeting with councillors, community campaigners and Ryedale Community Transport on how to restart local town/village transport following ending of the town bus service. We are working on a local car scheme for medical appointments and social needs, including shopping. More new to follow but do let us know if you’re willing to be a volunteer driver. The situation
Following a recent meeting in Filey regarding the town bus with resident Sue Cowan, Mayor Jacqui Holden-Banks and Cllr Sam Cross, I wanted to update constituents on what is being done to revive the service.
I completely understand the impact losing the bus has had on my constituents' ability to access medical services and local shops, as well as feeling separated from the community. Following a meeting in March and another public meeting last weekend, we’ve agreed that given the passion for the bus to return we need a similar scheme implemented in the town. Along with the town council and residents, we’re working on a proposal to be put forward to North Yorkshire Council, assessing the feasibility of a new service both logistically and financially.
I will update constituents more as we progress with this campaign.
