Update 16 May
At the weekend I met with Mayor Jacqui Houlden-Banks, Cllr Sam Cross, Sue Cowan and Colin Galway.
We had a constructive conversation where we addressed the different options to be able to provide this service, with next steps agreed to write to the new Mayor of York and North Yorkshire as well as NYC which I’ve done this week. I am also exploring possible funding support options from central government and local organisations. It was agreed Jacqui would take our proposals away and discuss at the town council. We will report back soon with an update.
Update 26 April
Following a recent meeting in Filey regarding the town bus with resident Sue Cowan, Mayor Jacqui Holden-Banks and Cllr Sam Cross, I wanted to update constituents on what is being done to revive the service.
I completely understand the impact losing the bus has had on my constituents' ability to access medical services and local shops, as well as feeling separated from the community. Following a meeting in March and another public meeting last weekend, we’ve agreed that given the passion for the bus to return we need a similar scheme implemented in the town. Along with the town council and residents, we’re working on a proposal to be put forward to North Yorkshire Council, assessing the feasibility of a new service both logistically and financially.
I will update constituents more as we progress with this campaign.
