Today I am appealing to charities across my constituency to apply for one of 50 donations of £100,000 that Barclays is making available to local charities. In April 2020 Barclays launched its £100 m Covid-19 Community Action Package to support vulnerable people and communities across the UK and globally which have been impacted by the pandemic. The 100 x £100,000 donations, including 8 awards across Yorkshire, enabled charities to provide essential local support at a time when demand for services increased but when their income was under pressure. The scheme has been such a success that the Bank is making a further 50 donations available.
It’s brilliant news that we are now lifting all the restrictions but the pandemic isn’t over yet and neither are the devastating effects it has had on our communities. Charities have lost a great deal of income as much of their fundraising activities has come to a halt. This is a very generous donation from Barclays Bank and I certainly hope that charities in Thirsk and Malton which meet the criteria should consider applying.
Barclays Head of Corporate Relations for Yorkshire Karen Swainston said: “The pandemic has had an unprecedented impact in our communities across Yorkshire and I am delighted we’re able to launch further support through the Barclays COVID-19 Community Aid Package. Local charities have the knowledge and ability to target support where it is needed most and we hope the additional 100x100 Programme funding will enable more people to access the help they need as we emerge from lockdown and beyond”.
UK charities, with an annual income of at least £1m are invited to apply to provide
- help for people experiencing physical and mental health issues;
- financial assistance for people facing financial hardship;
- support for ethnically diverse communities disproportionately impacted by the crisis; and
- enhancing digital accessibility.
Charities will be able to apply online through our 100x100 Programme page from 9am (UK time) on Monday 12 July, 2021, to 6pm (UK time) on Friday 6 August, 2021, with funding being made available in the Autumn.
