I was proud to present Ryedale Special Families in Old Malton with a cheque worth £5,812 following my charity bike ride last month and I have decided to make it an annual event. There was a further £883 in gift aid, bringing the total to £6,695. Ryedale Special Families offers support to families of children and young adults with disabilities, additional needs and illness throughout Ryedale.
I could not have raised this money without the generous donations of constituents and local businesses after cycling between 10 pubs in my constituency. This was part of a 10for10 challenge set by my parliamentary colleague, Guy Opperman, MP for Hexham to mark 10 years since he was diagnosed with a brain tumour after collapsing in the House of Commons.
It has not been easy for any charity these last 12 months and so I hope it will make a bit of difference. I was really chuffed with the support I received across the constituency and so I am determined to make it an annual event to raise money for different local charites.
Ryedale Special Families Chief Executive, Lisa Keenan said “It was a lovely surprise when I heard Kevin had chosen Ryedale Special Families as his charity for his bike ride. We are very grateful to everyone who so generously contributed. This money will go to our new building fund which will provide an essential new resource for local families of children and young people with disabilities”.
