On a crisp, bright, winter morning a group of tourism agents from across Europe met local MP, Kevin Hollinrake, at Castle Howard. The group arrived by coach for a tour of the beautiful stately home as part of an initiative to encourage more visitors to Yorkshire. Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, was delighted to meet the visitors in such an idyllic location which showcases what beautiful countryside Ryedale has to offer.
The morning was part of a VisitBritain Familiarisation Trip for international travel trade from Austria, Switzerland & Germany. This is linked to ExploreGB 2016, taking place in Liverpool. VisitBritain is organising Familiarisation Trips for international buyers to visit destinations and to meet local businesses across the country.
The 19 visitors were treated to a tour of the house and gardens at Castle Howard. As they stepped off their coach Mr Hollinrake welcomed them to Ryedale and everyone commented on the fantastic views at Castle Howard. The MP was sure they would enjoy their visit and asked that when they returned home they would encourage others to come.
“It could not have been a more perfect day in an amazing location to welcome visitors to the constituency. I know they will have appreciated the splendour and hospitality of Castle Howard as they looked round the house. Tourism is so important to our area and I am keen to help encourage more international visitors to see the places those of us who are lucky enough to live here treasure.”
The Marketing Manager for Castle Howard, Rachel Underwood, was also pleased to be able to greet the group from Europe and introduce them to the delights of the stately home.
“ExploreGB is an important event in the tourism calendar, showcasing the best of British destinations and attractions. Thanks to the Northern Tourism Growth Fund, there is a renewed emphasis on familiarisation trips to the North, as well as great partnership work between northern counties. We were delighted to welcome this select group of international buyers to Castle Howard.”
