Continuing his work to highlight the concerns of fisherman in the town of Filey their MP this week asked to meet with the Minister of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
On Thursday 24th November Kevin Hollinrake MP stood in the Chamber and asked George Eustice MP
βIn my fishing town of Filey, there are now only 7 boats licenced by the Environment Agency, all will expire by 2022 ending heritage fishing in the town. Would the Minister agree to meet with me to seek a solution to secure the future of fishing in Filey?β
Mr. Eustice replied, βI understand this issue from my honourable Friend, he is aware that the situation with wild salmon is particularly bleak at the moment. That is why we are looking at additional measures to reduce the catch through netting. However, I am quite sympathetic to the arguments made by the sustainability of T-nets in particular, which I understand are used along the shoreline in his constituency and I would be more than happy to meet with him.β
